Fáilte : Welcome

The Manchester Irish language group (milg) is an organisation that aims to promote irish language (gaeilge) through the provision of classes and social events in the south manchester area. We hope to provide an opportunity for speakers of irish, whether fluent or merely flaunting their "cúpla focal", to converse on a regular basis so that they can practice, maintain or enhance their skills.

• Evening classes for adults

Every monday, during term time, between 8:00 and 9:00pm at St Kentigerns social club, wilbraham road, fallowfield, m14 7dw. See here for directions.

Classes, which take place in an informal setting, are tailored to suit both complete beginners and more advanced speakers. There will be a part two to the classes running from 9:15 till 9:45 where other cultural avenues will be explored - singing, poetry, story telling.

• Club Cuideachta

This is a regular social event where speakers of irish can get together and use their language skills in a social setting. Speakers of all levels are encouraged to come along and enjoy the banter. Check our events bulletin, for details of this and other events. There will be live irish music.

• Conversation Group

There will be a conversation group held on the last thursday of each month. This is open to members and non-members alike. Sport, politics, gossip - whatever you want to talk about, if you can express it in irish then you're welcome to join in. These will be held in the Jolly Angler pub, Ducie Street, Manchester City Centre, which hopefully wil have a music session going on aswell. If your not sure where it is, the Jolly Angler is down the side of Piccadilly train station. A number of attendees will be meeting up at Piccadilly station first then walking down together, so if you want to do that get in touch by email or phone (call Pat McGuinness on 0161 225 0645).
